This year, I've decided that we're really going to have a good go at the 50 Things to do Before You're 11 3/4s challenge by the National Trust. We've dabbled in the past, and managed to get a few things completed in the Autumn, but I've decided, this year, to make a feature of it … Continue reading Taking on the National Trust’s #50Things Challenge.
We probably have a fire in our garden most weekends. We love it, especially in the autumn, that smoky, earthy wood scent. The dancing flames, perfectly hypnotic, helping your to unwind and de stress after a hectic week. Amongst other things, Mr W. is a woodworker, so we have lots of wood off cuts to … Continue reading Building a campfire- an exercise in family bonding.
There is something about going out and hunting for natural treasures that really appeals to kids. Despite the simplicity of the activity, children seem to get so excited about searching through the carpet of fallen, crunchy leaves to find that spiky green shell, and ultimately the shiny, regal nut within. Or getting a big stick … Continue reading We’re going on a conker hunt, we’re going to find a big one!
Ok, so anyone who knows me, or reads my blog, knows that I am a huge advocate of playing outdoors, whatever the weather. We were blessed with more beautiful September sunshine at the weekend, so we decided to make the most of it and go for a woodland walk to gather some natural materials for an art project. Nature scavenging is the perfect opportunity to discuss the seasons with young children. As we gathered different coloured leaves and … Continue reading Go on a nature hunt – Tick!
As the main aim of this blog is to record our Seasonal activities and tick items off our seasonal bucket lists I think it only right, now summer is ending and we enter a new season (Autumn yay!), that I sum up and reflect on what we've done. What did we achieve? Well, I must … Continue reading Summer 2016 Round Up
Yesterday it rained all day. Instead of letting this dampen our spirits we saw it as an opportunity to don the girls' new puddlesuits and go on a wet, woodland walk. I love this photo because, for me, it represents the beginning of Autumn, my favourite season.
Sadly for us, having two young children, we decided that going abroad was probably not an option this summer. Both logistically and financially, it was out of the question. In fact we haven't been outside of the U.K. for more than 5 years, since falling pregnant with Banana. Cue sad face, and feeling sorry for … Continue reading Find a view – Tick!
